YOUTH MISSION TRIP TO PINE RIDGE IN SOUTH DAKOTA, July 14-20, 2012.
Our team of 35 youth along with adult chaperones was part of a pilot project with Youth Works, titled “Youth Works Beyond”. This program allows for greater involvement and immersion in the culture and the community of the reservation we are serving.
South Dakota’s Pine Ridge Reservation is surrounded by the panoramic beauty of the Badlands. Rolling hills, forests and river valleys extend throughout this area that is known for some of the state’s finest fishing and hunting. Despite the natural beauty of this community, residents of the reservation are struggling with poverty, unemployment, addiction, health problems and more.
