PRAYER N MOTION – Word
Join us as we go deeper and ask God, “Lord, teach us to pray.“
Each month, we will focus on praying the Word of God, through simple and creative ways. For example:
- House of Prayer (HOP) – Verse of the Month, which will be available electronically here and on our House of Prayer Facebook page. Hard copies are available at designated prayer stations and/or in the prayer room (at both campuses). Here is the November verse of the month: Prayer N Motion November Verse of the Month:
“Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1
If you want to learn more about memorizing Scripture, go to https://www.facebook.com/HOPGarfieldChurch/ and click on Memorize a Verse or look for a copy at designated prayer stations or in the prayer room at both campuses.
Recommended book of the month: Long Wandering Prayer- An Invitation to walk with God
Realize that there is a direct connection between the degree to which our minds are shaped by Scripture and the degree to which our prayers are answered. Jesus said, “If you abide in me and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7) ~ John Piper
In the Old Testament, you’ll see that thanksgiving has limited expression. For instance, Bible verses about thanksgiving in the Old Testament are closely tied to “praise.” In other words, the people would praise God for who he is (Psalm 106:1; 118:1; 136:1) or for delivering them from a bad situation (Leviticus 7:11-16; Ps. 107:21-22). “In the New Testament, verses in the Bible about thanksgiving expand upon the limited scope of the concept in the Old Testament. What we see in the New Testament is that “thanksgiving” becomes a way of life for Christians—in the good times and the bad.”
Join us as we go deeper and ask, God! “Lord, teach us to pray.” This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. (Jeremiah 31:33).
HOP – Book of the Month will recommend a book on prayer each month with four copies circulating at both of our campuses. We will invite folks to read the recommended book and, on completed, invite someone else who is open to learning about prayer and keeping the book moving. There will be book reviews and a chance to share your thoughts around the book. Email your reviews/thoughts/questions to email@example.com. Click here for reviews of October book of the month.
- HOP –PRAYER ON THE PAGE – Gail Bellamy, our newest member of HOP in Pepper Pike, will meet us in the Psalms, peeling back the pages and make the Psalms relevant to our day-to-day living and circumstances. Diane Ferri will assist Gail; they will challenge us as they lead us in a monthly devotional writing of “Prayer on the Page.”
